Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH received the bronze Econ Award for its Internet page. This means that the med-tech company – which is headquartered in Duderstadt, South Lower Saxony – ranks among the top 3 in the category "Websites", next to Deutsche Telekom AG and Bayer AG.
The Econ Award was presented on this Thursday evening (15 November 2007) in the course of a festive celebration in the oldtown hall "Altes Stadthaus" in Berlin. The award is offered by the major economic and financial journal in German language "Handelsblatt" and by the publishing company "Econ Verlag", one of the leading German book publishers for the themes of economy, society, and politics. Among other aspects, the jury has taken the following criteria into consideration for its decision: the clearly arranged presentation of the information, effective user guidance, and an appealing layout. For the latter it is important that it suits the target groups we are aiming at and that it arouses their interest.
For more and more people, the Internet is the first and most important source of information – also and especially when it comes to medical care. In view of the huge variety and the increasing number of websites, however, target group oriented offers become more and more important. For an even better and quicker overview, the Otto Bock homepage is subdivided into the sections "Users & Patients", "Doctors& Therapists", and "Customers & Technicians". "In this way, we provide our customers with information that is optimally adapted to their requirements and interests," says Thomas Grabe, who is responsible for the new media division at Otto Bock. Patients, for example, can learn from reports of other users, that – even with a handicap – a high level of quality of life is possible. Specialist dealers will find information on the products, and technicians get useful tips for their daily work.
True to the company philosophy "Quality for Life", the Otto Bock website as well focuses on people. "Trust in the manufacturer is of particular importance for the customers of our industry," says Joachim F. Hamacher, director of corporate communication and company spokesman. The presentation of the website therefore also reflects credibility and reliability, the strengths of the Otto Bock brand. The company deliberately banks on a classical design with linear user guidance, especially with regard to topic of web accessibility. Thanks to braille line and special reading programs, for example, blind people are also able to use the Otto Bock homepage.
