For ultimate safety and stability, the 3R41 is locked in the fully extended position when walking. When you want to sit down or flex the joint, you have two options to release the lock of the 3R41:
With the first version, the lock is released using a pull cable worn underneath your clothing. In order to do so, you simply operate a small handle known as the lock control handle attached to the prosthesis socket.
With the second version, you can quickly and easily release the lock by activating a large push button on the front of your prosthesis knee joint.
As soon as you fully extend your leg again, the lock latch engages perceptibly and audibly to stabilise the prosthesis for better control and a feeling of safety while walking.

Innovative Release Mechanism

Unlike traditional locking knee joints, the innovative release mechanism of the 3R41 offers the advantage that you do not have to take all your weight off the prosthesis in order to release the lock and flex the joint. You do not have to transfer all your weight to the sound side in order to activate the release mechanism. This provides relief for your locomotor system and enhances safety.

The 3R41 is tailored to meet the needs of transfemoral amputees with very low activity level, and is suitable for patients with a body weight of up to 100 kg. In particular, older people with higher safety requirements benefit from the ease of use of the knee joint with lock.

The Latest in Plastic Technology

The 3R41 consists almost entirely of plastic, making it extremely lightweight. It is resistant to moisture and sprayed water, giving you flexibility in the bathroom and other rooms with high levels of humidity. The 3R41 is low-wearing and easy to maintain, offering visual as well as functional advantages with its modern design: For example, the anterior foam flap ensures you do not jam your fingers in the joint gap and also reduces wear on your cosmetic foam cover.

Good for You and Your Prosthetist

The upper connection adapter of the 3R41, which can be moved ahead and back, allows your prosthetist to optimise the prosthesis structure and serves to compensate for a hip extension deficit (e.g. hip flexion contracture) that may result from the amputation.
