Ottobock Running Clinics are a unique opportunity for above the knee amputees to enjoy learning to run or improving their skills with expert tuition from Ottobock Ambassador Heinrich Popow. Ottobock Running Clinics have been held all over the world including Brazil, USA, Russia, Germany, China, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and Switzerland.
Participants range from absolute beginners to experienced athletes. Each one has their own reason for coming to an Ottobock Running Clinic. These include fitness goals, the chance to get tips on technique from a Paralympian and parents determined to enjoy running around with their children. They can use their own equipment or trial the Ottobock 3S80 running knee and 1E90 or 1E93 running blades, with an experienced prosthetist available for fitting and advice.
Heinrich’s naturally hands-on and engaging style is infectious. Beginners quickly build confidence and surprise themselves with how soon they are taking their first steps. He creates an environment where all level of runners help and encourage each other. As a result everyone leaves with a sense of comradery and for many the impact goes much further than the ability to run.
“Today you met my husband… You talked with him for a while, coached him and helped him with his running, and even went out to look at his car. I just wanted to send you a message and say thank you, thank you, thank you. He is actually motivated to really try and run again, he’s excited about the possibility, and you’ve really sparked his interest in it. You have definitely become one of his icons, and I thank you for giving him the chance to feel normal again….I really believe you changed his outlook and I can’t thank you enough for that.”

“Heinrich, thanks for your help and for being such a good person, friend and athlete. I am going to apply your techniques and advice in my training and try my best to run as well as you. I am privileged to have met you and I hope to be beside you as a competitor at the Rio 2016 Games.”
