This impressive multi-part solution also integrates well with other prosthesis functions. The functional cosmesis consists of a knee part, a functional shank made of foam that can be custom moulded by the O&P professional and a functional stocking that forms the exterior finish.
Functional shank
The O&P professional moulds the foam element to create a natural looking lower leg that matches the original leg contour. The material impresses thanks to a pleasant feel and good dimensional stability.
Functional knee part
The robust knee part creates a natural knee volume. It permits unrestricted movement of the knee joint and facilitates a smooth connection to the socket.
Functional stocking
The functional stocking offers numerous benefits.
It is highly elastic in moveable zones, such as the knee, while producing an even surface in other areas thanks to yarn that is processed to give it a fleecy effect. Special properties of the yarn protect against splashed water.

The functional cosmesis can help. Once it has been fitted by the technician, it gives your prosthesis a natural leg volume.
Kneeling down, changing your shoes, climbing stairs – these are just a few activities where you can now focus on the essentials, because the functional cosmesis coordinates perfectly with the functions of your prosthesis.
In your working life, the focus should be on your field of work and interacting with colleagues and business partners. With the functional cosmesis, your prosthesis is less conspicuous and your amputation fades into the background.
Like your clothing, the functional stocking will need to be washed sooner or later. It is removable and machine washable. What’s more, it protects the prosthesis against a certain amount of splashed water and particles of dirt.

Can I wear a functional cosmesis?
In principle, the functional cosmesis is available for Genium and C-Leg 4 users.
Please ask your medical supply specialist whether it is in fact suitable for you as an individual.
Can I put on and take off the functional cosmesis by myself?
Partly, yes. The functional stocking is removable and machine washable. However, the underlying elements of the functional cosmesis – the functional knee part and the functional shank made of foam – can only be put on and taken off by your O&P professional, as this requires work on the prosthesis.
Does the functional cosmesis protect my prosthesis?
The functional cosmesis protects your prosthesis to a certain extent during normal, everyday use. This applies, for example, to contact with splashed water and small particles of dirt. The pre-shaped functional knee part also supports your body weight when you kneel down. Does the functional stocking make my prosthesis waterproof?
No. The functional stocking only protects against splashed water.
Can I wash the functional stocking?
Yes. It is machine washable at 30 °C. Please select the “Easy Care” or “Delicates” program.
Can I charge my knee joint with the functional stocking?
If you are wearing a Genium, inductive charging of your joint through the functional stocking is also possible. If you wear a C-Leg, you need to expose the charging unit for charging by pulling the stocking down slightly.
What can I do if my functional stocking slips out of place?
Make sure that the interior silicone band is lying on top of the socket material as far as possible (not on foam or similar) to ensure good adhesion of the stocking.
Wipe the silicone band with a damp cloth every three days to maintain its adhesive properties.
Can I kneel down with my functional stocking?
Yes. Please note, however, that this is a wear and tear part, and subject to natural wear. The lifetime decreases or increases depending on the individual level of use. Kneeling in short clothing on rough surfaces, for example, can decrease the service life.
What can I do if the feedback signals from my knee joint are difficult for me to hear through the functional cosmesis?
Please contact your O&P professional. He or she can adjust the signal volume.
