For therapy of knee arthrosis
Biomechanical mode of action of the Agilium Freestep for osteoarthritis of the knee in the medial compartment
Movements in the upper and lower ankle joint are spanned by a rigid component of the brace in the frontal plane. The eversion movement of the foot is thereby limited. This results in a shifting of the center of pressure (CoP) and the point of application of the ground reaction force (GRF) towards the lateral edge of the foot. This lateralizing effect on the course of the force vector of the GRF results in a shortening of the lever arm to the center of the knee, which decreases the external frontal varus torque acting on the knee. The lateral counter-support of the brace leads to the secondary effect of decreasing the load on the medial knee compartment. This also results in a shortening of the lever arm and thereby decreases the varus angle of the knee joint in the frontal plane.
