What users often want to know about the speedhand solution.
Yes, the Ottobock portfolio has two elbow options, ErgoArm and DynamicArm, for amputations above the elbow. The prosthetist will provide detailed advice on all aspects of a potential fitting and benefits of myosmart and the connectgrip app.
No, you are not allowed to shower or bathe with the speedhand. We offer the Skeo up daily assist (14Y4) designed for bathing activities. There are no standard prosthetic components for swimming; adjustments are made individually by your prosthetist. However, it is possible to wash your hands if the prosthetic glove is intact and the sleeve is long enough to prevent water from entering the prosthesis from behind.
A speedhand fitting involves several visits with your CPO to create a custom, well-fitting inner socket, align the socket and components, learn how to control your muscle signals and individualize the control, make adjustments, and provide training on how to best integrate the prosthesis into your daily life. Regular service visits are also recommended throughout the life of the prosthesis.
No, the speedhand cannot operate a touchscreen in general. The inner and outer gloves of the speedhand are usually not recognized as "touch fingers" by most touchscreens.
Success depends on individual factors such as training intensity and personal motivation. Under optimal conditions, the prosthesis can be well integrated into the body within 3 months. The connectgrip app allows you to make various adjustments yourself and experiment with them without losing the settings previously made by the orthopedic technician
We offer several battery options with different capacities and sizes to match the user's needs. The goal is a full day of operation, but this may vary depending on the daily use of the hand.
The speedhand is a state-of-the-art myoelectric-controlled prosthesis. It operates using 2 to 4 non-invasive surface sensors that contact the skin. These sensors detect residual muscle activity in the limb, allowing users to voluntarily open or close the hand. In combination with the connectgrip app, the control is customized to the user's muscle signals. This not only enables reliable and personalized opening and closing of the hand but also bending and extending of the elbow, as well as optional additional functions.
The speedhand features a "tripod" grip pattern, where the index and ring fingers move in opposition to the thumb. This allows for an opening of up to 100 mm for grasping objects.
In general, the speedhand is a myoelectric hand. The prescription and medical evaluation for this prosthetic solution is typically made by a rehabilitation physician in consultation with a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO).
An initial quick test can be performed easily and without a test socket using the myosmart cuff – a flexible arm cuff – in combination with a demonstrator. If you already have a prosthesis, both the connectgrip app and the speedhand can be seamlessly integrated and thoroughly tested. Contact your orthopedic technician or send us a request – we will be happy to provide you with further information.
The connectgrip app offers individually tailored control, customized to your physical capabilities. It visualizes muscle signals through biofeedback and allows you to independently adjust parameters such as speed and muscle tension. Additionally, you can create your own motion recordings to compensate for unwanted prosthetic behavior. The neutral position of the speedhand can also be individually adjusted to achieve a more natural appearance.
Yes, the app works on both device types and screen sizes with Android 12 or iOS 15 and later. It is available for free in the respective app stores.
