A milestone in prosthetics
When it was launched on the market in 1997, the C-Leg was the world’s first microprocessor-controlled leg prosthesis – a milestone in prosthetics. For the first time, sensors continuously measured the user’s current gait phase. And the C-Leg responded intelligently to a wide variety of everyday situations – in real time. This gave persons affected by lower limb amputations a nearly natural gait pattern once again and, for example, made descending stairs step-over-step and walking on slopes possible as well. Since then, more than 70,000 people have been treated around the world.
Moving safely with the C-Leg
Meanwhile the fourth generation of this innovative lower limb prosthesis, the C-Leg 4, is on the market. Thanks to technical enhancements, users can move even more smoothly and safely, including on difficult terrain such as forest floor, sand and gravel. A relaxed standing position with a slightly flexed knee is intuitive now. And the automatic sitting function also ensures a relaxed posture, as the knee joint swings freely once the user has sat down.
C-Leg success story
The new generation of the C-Leg can also be operated via an app. Using their smartphone, users can adjust a variety of functions of their prosthesis and also check the charge level. The C-Leg communicates with the app via integrated Bluetooth.
At the heart of this 20-year success story is the ongoing development of the prosthesis – based on feedback from users, the O&P professionals who fit the device and the therapists involved in treatment.
