Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games
The Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games proved to be Ottobock’s most challenging to date. It confirmed that the competition has got to the level where it would be impossible to stage a Paralympic Games without the technical service offered by Ottobock .
The variety and complexity of service requests kept technicians busy for 10,000 hours completing 2,188 repairs for athletes from 120 countries. They included fabricating brand new prostheses and orthoses as well as a last minute surprise before the Games had even started; a request to make flag-holders for the wheelchairs of more than 50 athletes chosen as opening ceremony flag bearers.
Supporting Ottobock’s experienced technical service team were 50 local orthopeadic students. As part of a ground-breaking partnership with the Chinese Disabled Persons Federation they worked alongside our international technicians. The unique training and experience they received will benefit people with disabilities in China for many years to come.
