From acrobatic gymnastics to para athletics
Desirée was an acrobatic gymnast competing on world level when in February 2015 she broke her tibia and fibula during a practice jump. Due to an obstructed artery resulting in insufficient blood flow and an inadequate treatment, her right leg had to be amputated. After her recovery, she started with athletics at the age of 19 and is now one of the best para athletes in the world.
"Sport has given me the opportunity to accept my disability, meet other people with the same situation and to not stop setting goals."
