Genium X3
The sensor technology in the Genium X3 makes intuitive and natural motion sequences possible, even when you’re walking backwards or climbing stairs, or when switching between different walking speeds and stride lengths. Enhanced safety and quality of life along with relief for the contralateral side are just some of the aspects that can benefit patients considerably; and this has been scientifically proven.
The Genium X3 is particularly robust and resilient. Physically demanding occupations, an active family life, swimming and sports activities, seaside holidays and situations where you encounter water, dust, sand, dirt or grime – these are the ideal conditions for the Genium X3.
The Genium X3 has now been developed even further on this basis for smoother, more intuitive walking, improved safety and better support in everyday situations.
The Genium X3 is incredibly simple to configure using the Cockpit app on your iPhone or Android smartphone.
Inertial motion unit (IMU)
Knee joint control is based on motion analysis and additional force measurement. To this end, sensors determine the position and acceleration of the Genium X3 leg prosthesis as well as the flexion angle and flexion angle speed in real time.
Battery and electronics
The Genium X3’s rechargeable battery and electronics are enclosed and protected by the frame and Protective Cover. An integrated microprocessor coordinates all measurement and control processes.
Hydraulic unit
The hydraulic unit controls the Genium X3. The flexion and extension resistances are controlled independently by means of two control valves.
Robust Protective Cover
The robust Protective Cover effectively protects the prosthesis against numerous everyday stresses. In addition to water, dust and dirt, this includes protection against impacts.
Knee moment sensor
The knee moment sensor supplies data about the knee moments that occur: this important information makes it possible to precisely determine the forces acting on the prosthesis.
Inductive charging
The inductive charger is magnetically attached to the back of the prosthetic knee joint. This technology allows charging through clothing and cosmetic covers.
Intelligent AXON tube adapter
The AXON tube adapter measures the ankle moment and the vertical force acting on the joint in real time. The AXON tube adapter can be connected to a foot without a connecting piece.
Carbon fibre frame
In order to withstand the varied demands of everyday life, the frame is made from carbon – an especially strong, high-grade and lightweight material.
Waterproof and corrosion-resistant
The IP rating 68 means protection against the ingress of liquids and solids such as dust and dirt. The Genium X3 is not only waterproof but also fully functional underwater and is protected against strong jets of water. A corrosion-resistant coating makes it easy to enjoy activities in fresh, chlorinated and salt water.

Answers for you
Who can wear the Genium X3?
The Genium X3 is suitable for all transfemoral amputees who benefit from its outstanding everyday characteristics and want to experience new possibilities thanks to the water and corrosion resistance of the Genium X3. Bilateral amputees can be fitted with the Genium X3 as well. Special functions geared to the needs of bilateral amputees can be activated in the adjustment software.
Where can I test a Genium X3 knee prosthesis?
The Genium X3 is fitted by certified prosthetists and a trial fitting may be obtained if appropriate by speaking to your prosthetist. It takes place over a predetermined period of time and is monitored by Ottobock when needed.
How long will it take me to learn how to use the Genium X3 properly?
We can't make any general statements regarding this. A majority of trial users are able to take stairs step-over-step on the very first day. However, this may also take a few days or weeks depending on the individual situation.
What all is included in a fitting with a Genium X3 leg prosthesis?
The fitting includes all components from an appropriate prosthetic socket to a prosthetic foot. Your prosthetist will customise these components to your individual needs. The assembly and setup of the chosen components are of course also included, as well as regular service inspections.
How long will the battery of the Genium X3 last?
Intelligent energy management integrated in the Genium X3 results in a battery capacity of five days when fully charged. However, we recommend charging the prosthesis every night.
How do I know when the battery is running low?
Vibration signals warn you in a timely manner when the battery charge level becomes critically low. Once it is drained entirely or if the power supply fails, the Genium X3 automatically switches to safety mode.
Can I shower or go swimming with the Genium X3?
The Genium X3 is waterproof (even against strong jets of water), and only corrosion-resistant components are used. High-quality materials protect the sensitive electronics in the prosthesis. The Genium X3 was assigned the highest possible protection class, IP 68.

Genium
With the market launch of the Genium leg prosthesis, Ottobock opened up entirely new horizons for prosthesis wearers: a nearly natural gait pattern, climbing stairs step-over-step, walking backwards, relaxed standing – to name just a few examples. The benefits of being fitted with a Genium have been scientifically proven in multiple studies.
The Genium has been enhanced based on human movement as the model. The result is a noticeably smoother gait and even better support and safety in everyday situations, for instance on ramps, in confined spaces or when changing walking speeds. Five individually selectable MyModes support special movement patterns at work or play.
The Genium can be configured with the Cockpit app, which is now available not only for Android but Apple (iOS) devices as well.
