How do I put on the WalkOn Reaction Junior?

We recommend that you place the orthosis into the shoe first and then insert your foot. Then you can simply fasten the hook-and-loop closures.

Can I get extra pads for the WalkOn Reaction Junior?

Replacement pads can of course be ordered through your orthopaedic technician. He or she adapts the pads for you personally to ensure they fit.

How do I care for the WalkOn Reaction Junior?

The orthosis should be wiped regularly using water and a mild cleaning agent. All pads and closures are combined, and all textile components can be washed and replaced. We recommend washing the pad at least twice a week (machine washable at 40°C).

Is it possible to take part in sport with the WalkOn Reaction Junior?

Yes, in fact it is recommended that you are active. Speak to your orthopaedic technician to get their advice on which sports are the most beneficial and how to make the best use of your orthosis. You should however avoid extreme and abrupt movements.

Do I need a special shoe for the WalkOn Reaction Junior?

No, but you should select a sturdy shoe with a reinforced heel. It is important that the orthosis fits firmly so that it moves as little as possible. We also recommend a heel height of 10 mm; alternatively this can be determined by your technician. An additional pair of shoes should of course have the same heel height.

Walk more naturally

The WalkOn Reaction Junior enables a nearly physiological gait. The special orthosis design supports extension and flexion of the knee during walking. Your child’s gait pattern becomes smoother. This also applies to children with higher activity levels, who require greater support for knee extension.

Fewer compensating movements

Compensating movements often result in signs of wear. The WalkOn Reaction Junior can reduce these with its high energy return. The energy stored during heel strike is released by the orthosis during the rollover movement of the foot. This helps your child walk more symmetrically. The special alignment of the orthosis provides a more natural posture during standing as well.

Enhanced safety

Your child’s safety is increased as the WalkOn Reaction Junior supports and lifts the foot during the swing phase while walking. The risk of catching the tip of the foot, for example on carpet edges or uneven ground, is reduced.

Appropriate for shoes

The orthosis can be worn in standard shoes, and a sturdy shoe is perfectly adequate. You only need to make sure that the shoe has a reinforced heel. To put on the orthosis, you should ideally start by positioning the WalkOn Reaction Junior in the shoe. The child can then simply step in with the foot.

Leo is a lively boy who enjoys moving about, loves being outside and is nearly always cheerful. Cars are his greatest passion. He likes visiting vintage car exhibitions together with his mother, Kristin. Climbing and playing outdoors are popular activities as well. Leo needs an orthosis to walk as he was born prematurely, which resulted in hemiplegia.He has worn an orthosis on his right leg since he was four years old and is very accustomed to this. Leo is particularly excited about the new WalkOn Reaction junior. The progressive ankle-foot orthosis was developed especially for children with mild neurological disorders affecting the legs. It offers a higher level of support than conventional orthoses and also improves Leo’s dorsiflexion and gait. “Without the orthosis, his gait pattern is noticeably worse. It doesn’t look smooth, and he is prone to tripping up much more frequently,” his mother Kristin says. “I think the big advantage of the WalkOn Reaction junior is that children can wear completely normal shoes, rather than having to get orthotic shoes.”
