These sensors detect residual muscle activity in the limb, allowing users to voluntarily open or close the hand, switch between grips or controlling an active rotation or elbow. In combination with the connectgrip app, the control is customized to the user’s muscle signals. This not only enables reliable and personalized opening and closing of the hand but also bending and extending of the elbow, as well as optional additional functions.

The michelangelo features an opposition grip mode, where the index and ring fingers move in opposition to the thumb. This allows for an opening width of up to 100–110mm for grasping objects.

In a lateral grip mode, the thumb moves laterally to the index finger. This allows you to laterally grip flat objects such as paper or credit cards. Using the finger abduction/adduction allows you to hold flat and thin (<3mm objects) by spreading and closing the fingers. With an open palm, a flat hand position is achieved which allows you to carry, for example, a bowl quite naturally. In the natural mode the michelangelo looks very natural in the resting position.

An initial quick test can be performed easily and without a test socket using the myosmartcuff – a flexible arm cuff – in combination with a demonstrator.
