The key to fluid movement is a knee that responds quickly to different inclines and surfaces. With the new C-Leg 4, users get improved stance release and increased support for descending ramps and stairs, enabling noticeably smoother and more reliable movement.

The C-Leg 4 detects when users sit down, mirroring their speed to keep them stable and in control — even if they’re using a chair or a walking aid for support. Once seated, they can enjoy a relaxed, comfortable position with a free-swinging joint thanks to the automatic sitting function.

Now it’s easier than ever for users to get the most out of their C-Leg. Deep sleep mode saves battery during long flights, camping, or other activities where power supply is limited. A redesigned charger enables one-handed use. Plus, there’s a USB charging adapter available.

Helpful training function

A new training function provides a feedback signal after every successful swing phase initiation to support troubleshooting and gait training as users get accustomed to their prosthesis. This feature can be activated and deactivated by the prosthetist or user via the Cockpit app.

With the C-Leg 4, users don't have to worry about occasional water splashes. Whether they’re walking past a sprinkler, working in the garden, or caught in a sudden rain shower, the C-Leg is designed to stay protected as long as the joint and components are dried off afterward.

MyMode Plus

Now, users can easily get more support for their favorite activities. MyMode Plus offers a fantastic selection of options for work, leisure, and athletics. Together with their prosthetist, users can select two settings for easy activation in the Cockpit app or via a movement pattern.

Many of the updates to our signature C-Leg microprocessor knee are based on feedback we received from users and professionals. In fact, that’s why the C-Leg 4 is now available in two colors: the original lighter Desert Pearl as well as a new darker shade, Midnight Shadow.

With their prosthetist’s help, users can choose between intuitive and deliberate stance functions. Intuitive stance uses subtle cues to detect whether users need support for standing or taking a step, while deliberate stance requires more conscious movements to resume flexion.

What benefits of the C-Leg have been proven in clinical trials?

Numerous studies have investigated the advantages of C-Leg technology for people with a transfemoral amputation. These studies have shown that the frequency of falls is much lower with the C-Leg compared to conventional prostheses, proving a high level of safety. In addition, studies show that C-Leg users don’t have to concentrate on their prosthesis at all times, but rather can move more freely in everyday situations. C-Leg users have more confidence in their prosthesis, and are also able to boost their activity levels, vary their walking speed and expend less energy while walking.

Where can I get a C-Leg?

You can get the C-Leg from Ottobock with the advice and assistance of a qualified prosthetist, who will adapt the prosthesis to your individual needs.

Where can I try out a C-Leg?

Many practitioners offer trial fittings which take place over a predetermined period of time and are monitored by Ottobock when needed. Just talk to your prosthetist for more details.

What’s included in a prosthetic fitting?

A prosthetic fitting includes all components from the foot to the knee joint system, including the socket, which will be customized to your individual needs by your prosthetist. The assembly and setup of the system are also included, as well as regular service inspections during the entire period you use the C-Leg.

What happens when the battery is drained?
A vibration signal notifies the user well in advance when the battery starts getting low. When it’s drained, the C-Leg automatically switches to a predefined safety mode so that the user’s preferred resistance in the stance phase is activated.
Can I take a shower or go swimming with the C-Leg?
Although the C-Leg is weatherproof and well suited for contact with water in various everyday situations, such as rain showers or light splashes, it is not fully waterproof. You should not wear it in the shower or for activities like swimming.
How long does it take to learn how to use the C-Leg?
Many users are able to walk downstairs step-over-step on their first day with the C-Leg prosthesis. However, it can also take several days or even weeks for users to completely acclimate to using the C-Leg in everyday situations depending on their unique condition and circumstances.

With the market launch of the Genium leg prosthesis in 2011, Ottobock opened up entirely new horizons for prosthesis wearers: an unprecedented, natural gait pattern, climbing stairs step-over-step, overcoming obstacles, walking backwards, relaxed standing – to name just a few.
