


Ottobock introduces new speedhand solution, expanding personalized, enhanced control for myoelectric prosthesis users
A new upper limb solution combines the speedhand prosthetic hand, modular wrist options, myosmart control system, and app-based programming with the connectgrip app in an integrated system designed to meet the unique needs of each user.
Austin, TX, September 1, 2026 – Ottobock today announced the launch of the new speedhand solution, a comprehensive myoelectric upper limb prosthetic system that combines trusted performance with new options for personalized, enhanced myoelectric control, wrist mobility, training and digital connectivity.
Building on Ottobock’s established myoelectric technology, the speedhand solution brings together the new speedhand prosthetic hand, a portfolio of modular wrists, the myosmart control system, myosmart cuff and connectgrip app. Together, these components give prosthetists greater flexibility to tailor a prosthesis to an individual user’s anatomy, muscle signals, and functional needs while giving users more opportunities to personalize how their prosthesis responds in everyday situations.
A complete solution built around the new speedhand
At the center of the system is the new speedhand, Ottobock’s shortest myoelectric hand to date, meaning users with a wider range of residual limb measurements can benefit from the device. Designed for dependable everyday performance, speedhand combines grip strength, speed and durability in a compact design.
The hand delivers up to 24 pounds of grip force and opening and closing speeds of up to 300 millimeters per second. Reduced motor noise supports quieter operation, while an automatic neutral position allows the thumb to return to a relaxed position when the hand is not actively in use.
The speedhand solution also introduces multiple modular wrist options to support different fitting and functional needs. The new wrist flex, for example, provides flexion and extension and includes a flexible mode designed to support more natural positioning during everyday activities. Additional wrist configurations like the wrist short and wrist transcarpal provide options for different residual limb lengths.

Personalized myoelectric control with myosmart
The new myosmart control system provides the connection between the user’s muscle signals and the prosthesis. Electrodes detect myoelectric signals generated by residual muscle activity and translate them into prosthetic movement of the hand.
Supporting up to four signal inputs, myosmart gives clinicians greater flexibility to configure control based on an individual user’s available muscle signals and abilities. Advanced signal processing supports precise proportional control while helping address challenges such as signal separation and crosstalk.
The system is complemented by the introduction of app-based programming with the connectgrip app, a digital interface that enhances prosthesis configuration, customization, and user training.
Through connectgrip, users can adjust clinician-approved settings, such as speed and muscle tension from a compatible Apple or Android device, allowing for a more personalized experience. Real-time visual feedback provides both users and clinicians with insight into muscle activity, further supporting prosthesis setup and training. To ensure safety and clinical integrity, core prosthesis configurations remain secure and can only be adjusted by certified professionals.
Supporting evaluation and training throughout the fitting process
The myosmart cuff extends the system beyond the finished prosthesis by supporting evaluation and training during the initial evaluation process.
Used with the connectgrip app, the cuff provides real-time muscle activity feedback, helping clinicians identify appropriate electrode positions and refine control strategies. At the same time, it empowers users to explore and practice myoelectric control before receiving their definitive prosthesis.
Following the definitive fitting, the cuff can continue to serve as a training tool to help users develop greater accuracy and confidence in controlling their prosthesis.
