Ottobock Supports Resilience and Recovery at the 2025 Invictus Games
WHISTLER, B.C. — The 2025 Invictus Games brought together athletes from around the world to celebrate resilience, camaraderie and the power of sport in recovery. Among the organizations supporting the event, Ottobock played a key role, providing technical repairs, engaging with attendees and ensuring that competitors had access to the resources they needed to perform at their best.
A Team Effort: Ottobock’s Role at Invictus
Ottobock’s presence at the Games extended beyond product demonstrations and marketing. Employees from the company’s marketing, consumer engagement and technical support teams were on-site, assisting athletes, interacting with fans, and contributing to the spirit of the event.
“We showed the bebionic hand, the ProCarve knee, and a running prosthesis to more than 1,000 people over five days,” said Melissa Langley, Ottobock’s Director of Marketing Communications. “It was an incredible opportunity to share our story and support the competitors.”
Technical specialists were also stationed at the event, ensuring that prosthetic, orthotic, and wheelchair users received timely repairs and maintenance. “I was part of the technical support team, directly helping athletes maintain or regain their freedom of movement,” said Clinical Specialist Stephane Daviault.
Moments That Defined the Games
For many Ottobock team members, witnessing the unwavering support and solidarity among competitors was a highlight of the Games.
“One of the most moving moments was seeing 40,000 people stand up and cheer for the Ukrainian veterans as they entered during the opening ceremony,” said JP Rahmann, Ottobock’s Executive Director of Corporate Digital Sales and Marketing.
That moment of unity was echoed by others on the team. “The standing ovation for Ukraine during the Opening Ceremonies was unforgettable,” said Stephanie McGregor, Ottobock’s Events and Marketing Specialist. “You could see the gratitude on their faces as the crowd clapped longer and louder than for any other country.”
Beyond the ceremonies, Ottobock staff had direct interactions with athletes that reinforced the importance of their presence at the Games. “Mac, the captain of the UK wheelchair rugby team, came to our booth and shared his decision to amputate his leg after eight years of complications from an injury in battle,” Rahmann recalled. “After speaking with us and hearing Adam Popp’s story, his wife patted him on the shoulder and said, ‘See honey, you’ll be more than fine.’”

A Commitment to Supporting Athletes
Ottobock’s impact at the Games extended beyond technical support. Employees engaged with competitors and their families, offering encouragement and ensuring they had access to essential resources.
Aaron Holm, manager of consumer engagement, noted the importance of inclusivity at the Games. “This year, they incorporated ‘Team Unconquered,’ which brought together athletes from multiple countries who didn’t have enough competitors to form their own teams. It was amazing to see athletes from around the world unite in competition.”
In one instance, Ottobock staff helped a Brazilian competitor replace a damaged Skeo Sealing Liner. “After he received his new liner, the entire Brazil team came to the repair center, and we helped them all out,” Rahmann said.
Lessons Learned and Looking Ahead
The experience left a lasting impression on the Ottobock team.
“These Games aren’t just about the competitors—it’s about their families and friends who experience their journeys firsthand,” Rahmann said. “They all adjust to a new normal together.”
Langley emphasized that the Invictus Games are about more than just sport. “For many competitors, it’s about rediscovering purpose and passion after an illness or injury. One competitor told me the Games helped him learn how to have fun again.”
Ottobock’s involvement in the 2025 Invictus Games reaffirmed its commitment to supporting individuals through innovation, education and advocacy.
“The impact we have—whether through repairs, education or simply being there—matters,” said Trevor Hirschhauser, an Ottobock Graphic Designer. “What we do makes a difference, no matter how small.”

A Lasting Impact
The Invictus Games embody resilience, determination and the power of community, values that align closely with Ottobock’s mission. As the event concluded, the company’s team members left inspired by the athletes and honored to have played a part in their journeys.
“To all the competitors who inspired us—thank you,” Langley said. “To those who stopped by to learn more—we are grateful for you. And to our Ottobock team—your dedication and expertise continue to make a difference.”
